SO AWESOME to see my friend Grammy Award-Winner LARRY CARLTON in concert (especially from my front row - center seat)! Larry is a guitar Legend! His career as an American jazz, smooth jazz, jazz fusion, blues, pop, and rock guitarist has seen him play on some of the most popular records of the last 40 years. He has won 4 Grammy Awards, and received 19 nominations. Larry has played on records for (and or performed live with) Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, The Four Tops, Christopher Cross, Barbra Streisand, Steve Lukather (of Toto), Michael McDonald, The Crusaders and even the Partridge Family. Larrys guitar work on Steely Dans Kid Charlemagne from their 1976 album The Royal Scam has been listed as the third best guitar solo on a record by Rolling Stone magazine. Larry received one of his Grammy Awards for his featured guitar work on the theme song for the popular 80s television police drama Hill Street Blues. He also received a Grammy for his cover of the hit Doobie Brothers song, Minute by Minute. At Larrys concert I had the opportunity to talk with his Mom. I asked her, Did you think your son would become a Grammy Award-Winning guitar Legend when as a young man he told you he wanted to play guitar for a living? Without missing a beat, his Mom smiled and said proudly, I never doubted him for a minute! We supported him and believed in him all the way! The lesson? DREAM BIG!
