SPEEDY ON BUSINESS MANAGEMENT TIP OF THE DAY The American Dream Lives On in Emerging Markets The American Dream — that is, the belief that optimism, self-reliance, and hard work will lead to a successful future — has lost its shine in the U.S. over the last few years. But in emerging markets such as China, India, and Latin America, these ideals are alive and well. Workers in these markets, when compared to their American counterparts, are more optimistic about their futures (48% versus 29%), plan to stick with their current line of work (65% versus 44%), and want to work in more competitive workplaces (54% versus 16%). A lot of this, of course, can be chocked up to rapid growth. Some young people in emerging markets, for example, can expect to earn 100 times the income of their parents. Millennials in the U.S.? They'll be lucky if they break even. SOURCE: The American Dream is Alive and Well, Outside America by Alison Williams
