SPLM Official, 3 Teachers In Cueibet County Arrested Authorities in Cueibet County of Lakes are holding three teachers and an official of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM). 30 August 2013 By Gabriel Mayom RUMBEK, August 30, 2013 (Gurtong) - The SPLM Assistant Secretary for Finance in Cueibet County and other friends who visited them in military cell located in western part of the county were also detained and beaten and made to pay SSP 50 to bail himself from the beaten. “We were arrested on 24 August and detained till 25 after top authority leaders in Juba intervene to secure our release,” a victim who begged for anonymity said. “We were arrested in Barhgel under the command of Lt-Col Abil Chol. The soldiers were instructed to arrest the Assistant Secretary for finance after he disagreed with SPLM county Secretary over workers payment at the party county office,” he said. He said they were alleged arrested as they visited their colleague Joseph Chikoc Majur. “The soldiers told us that they were acting under county commissioner’s orders. We were beaten, abused and humiliated.. They denied us drinking water and we were also ordered to pay SSP 440 for chain and military cell entering fe,” he said. The County Commissioner Isaac Mayom Malek could not pick his telephone when Gurtong contacted him for a comment. This is the first time Mayom declined to answer a telephone call from Gurtong.
