SPLOST dollars continue to improve Floyd Road Cobb DOT staff continues to widen 1.1 miles of Floyd Road between Clay Road and Hicks Road, from five-lanes undivided with narrow lanes to four 11-foot lanes median divided. This project also includes a multi-use trail and sidewalk. The Floyd Road project, funded by the Cobb County 2005 SPLOST program, is scheduled for completion in the spring. Clay Road to Hicks Road – Monday, Nov. 11, through Friday, Nov. 15 Expect periodic lane closures 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. with one lane remaining open while the contractor continues installing curb and gutter, sidewalk, storm drainage, grading and signal work. Utility companies will be relocating services. EXPECT DELAYS. Pedestrian access Temporary sidewalks are in place to assist pedestrians while old sidewalks are removed and new sidewalks are constructed along the east side of Floyd Road. Additional traffic barrels and directional signage are in place to assist pedestrians needing access to existing bus stops on the west side of Floyd. All existing bus stops will be maintained during construction. Pedestrian paths may be temporarily relocated during short-duration closures as construction continues. When needed, contractors may escort pedestrians through the work zone. Silver Comet Trail to Anderson Mill Road – Monday, Nov. 11, through Friday, Nov. 15 The project is substantially complete and the contractor will work on punchlist. Ewing Road Sidewalk Construction Clay Road to Eloquent Lane – Monday, Nov. 11, through Friday, Nov. 15 Expect periodic lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with one lane remaining open while the contractor continues clearing and installing storm drainage and water main. Utility companies will be relocating services. Pisgah Road Sidewalk Construction The contractor will work Saturday, Nov. 9, removing debris, with lane closures. The contractor is not planning to work Sunday, Nov. 10.. South Gordon Road to Wallace Park – Monday, Nov. 11, through Friday, Nov. 15 The contractor will continue clearing and utility company will relocate services. Silver Comet Trail Cobb Department of Transportation maintenance crews will soon begin wooden board deck replacement on the Silver Comet Bridge over the East-West Connector. The actual start time depends on the delivery of specially cut and treated wooden boards. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained through the construction site during the deck replacement. Warning signs will be clearly posted on each approach to the bridge advising of construction activity. Bikers should expect to stop and dismount when approaching the bridge for their own safety as well as the safety of construction workers. Since traffic is being maintained during the replacement, the work will take about 45 to 60 days, depending on weather.
