SPORTS UPDATE WITH EMMAH ATAI: The Guinness International Champions Cup heads towards a conclusion this weekend as the eight teams involved play their last group fixtures. Louis van Gaals Manchester United take on Real Madrid in Michigan while Group As other fixture sees Italian rivals Inter Milan and Roma go head to head in Philadelphia. Over in Group B, leaders Liverpool face AC Milan in North Carolina in a repeat of the 2005 and 2007 Champions League finals in North Carolina, while Manuel Pellegrinis Manchester City take on Olympiacos in Minnesota. All four games take place on Saturday and the winners of each group will meet in the final at Miamis Sun Life Stadium on Monday. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has suggested club captain Thomas Vermaelen may leave the Gunners. The 28-year-old, part of the Belgium squad at the 2014 Fifa World Cup, has been linked with Manchester United. Speaking at a news conference today, Wenger said defender Vermaelen is injured but admitted: It is a possibility that he goes. Vermaelen, who joined Arsenal from Ajax in June 2009, made 14 Premier League appearances last season. Jose Mourinho claims Chelsea players are so surprised at Diego Costas ability, and that the Spain striker is the team player the club have lacked in the front line over recent seasons. Costa, who arrived at Stamford Bridge for £32million from Atletico Madrid in July, has impressed the Chelsea boss so far in pre-season, scoring in the 2-1 friendly win over Olimpija Ljubljana last week. Costa scored 36 goals in 52 games in all competitions for Atletico Madrid last season, but Mourinho insists he is more than just a goalscorer, having set up two of Chelseas goals in the 3-1 friendly win over Vitesse Arnhem. Manager Alan Pardew hopes Newcastle United can complete a deal to sign Shakhtar Donetsk striker Facundo Ferreyra on loan. The 23-year-old Argentine is one of six Shakhtar players who have opted not to return to Donetsk because of the on-going conflict in Ukraine. Pardew is keen to add a forward to his squad, with six signings already made. The 27yr old was expected to join Liverpool before a deal collapsed, and Pardew had confirmed his interest in re-signing the France international earlier this week. CAF U-17 QUALIFIERS: Rwanda 2 - 3 Uganda (Aggregate: Uganda 7 – 2 Rwanda) Uganda Cubs has progressed to the last stage of the CAF 2015 Qualifiers after a resounding 3 – 2 away victory over a ten man Rwandan side at the Umuganda stadium today. Comoros head coach Amir Abdou has backed Kenya’s Football Federation in their appeal against Harambee Stars coach Adel Amrouche by denying allegations that the Kenyan coach spit at a match official. CAF sanctioned a one year ban on Amrouche for allegedly spitting at a match official during Kenya’s 1-1 draw in the 2015 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers game in Comoros in May a punishment the FKF has appealed.
