SUPERfreak Hit Top Gear. After a couple of hours waiting and literally standing around we were finally called to assemble outside the hanger/studio. The show’s producer told us we were very lucky this week for a few reasons. To start with it wasn’t raining so that was already an improvement over last week. There would be free wagon wheels for everybody (technically not true but I did enjoy 3 custard creams & a packet of crisps) and most importantly that we were gonna witness the most studio work they had filmed for one episode, more than they had done for 5 years. I immediately thought yeah right, I bet they say that to every audience… But I was wrong! Great to see behind the scenes and get a glimpse of how the show is made. I was impressed how professional & slick they were on camera but the outtakes were hilarious. Especially during the interview, this time with Jack Whitehall. The conversation with Jeremy Clarkson was nearly 3 times longer than we see on the telly but with the amount of swearing it contained I’m not surprised they filmed so much just to get enough material they can actually broadcast. We also got to see the Stig light up the tyres of a Nissan GTR actually inside the studio. I somehow found myself stood next to the Stig and when was the last time he he was even in the studio, never mind performing stunts. Maybe the funniest bit was when Jeremy Clarkson tried to set fire to Richard Hammond’s “man vegetables” with only a pepperoni pizza for protection… to which James May exclaimed… “I can smell burning sausage!” Classic.
