SVENGALI Market Hall Cinema Brynmawr Simon Pegg brought us - TopicsExpress

SVENGALI Market Hall Cinema Brynmawr Simon Pegg brought us Zom/Rom/Com now Johnny Owen brings us Mod/Rom/Com. For someone who studied Subculture at Degree level and runs a Mods and Rockers show every week this film was a godsend. In among the love story between Dixie and Shell is a delight of a movie with tremendous cameos Martin Freemans Ace Face put down of Ticket Dixie had me rolling, Carl Barats intro for the Prems and Alan McGee playing himself with self effacing charm (he too was humility personified at the show unlike some of his illustrious charges). It is so much more than a fish out of water comedy and the interplay between Horsey and Dixie first introduced to us in an online mini-series is comedic heaven. You dont have to be a Mod or Welsh to enjoy the film but if you are its like Twin Town merging with Quadrophenia The show building to the Premiere gave a fantastic build up with 20 greasers followed by 40 suited and booted mods on a fine array of Vespas and Lambrettas. The film certainly lived up to the hype with the late Brian Hibbard providing a great metaphor not only of a man dying but of the old Wales with its heavy Industry now gone, (too deep for me to notice but Johnny informed us at a wonderfully relaxed Q and A session after the film.) With a soundtrack to die for including local guys Broken Vinyl Club (Justin Beynon in attendance) and The Keys sitting next to Mod and Northern Soul classics. Svengali returns to Brynmawr later this month go check it out, you will love spotting locations and actors as much as this gem of a story. Chris Phillips brfm.co.uk
