Sadly yesterday Australia lost an equestrian legend and inspiring NEGS old girl with the passing of Bud Hyem (nee McIntyre) may she rest in peace. Bridget ‘Bud’ Hyem (nee Macintyre) attended NEGS during 1944-1949 and was Australia’s first female rider to compete in an Olympic Equestrian team, show-jumping aboard “Coronation” at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo. She went on to breed “Kibah Tic Toc”, which carried Matt Ryan to double gold at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, followed up by “Kibah Sandstone” winning Ryan gold in Sydney 2000 – both in the three day event. Bud was living at her property “Kibah” just outside of Carroll, NSW. She is the only person in the world who has bred two Olympic gold medal horses from the same mare. Over the years, Bud has contributed extensively to the equine industry including opening her doors to the NEGS Equestrian community by hosting Eventing competitions at her home property “Kibah”. Bud was fortunate enough to ride “Kibah Tic Toc” in the Tamworth-Gunnedah leg of the torch relay in the lead up to the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Our thoughts are with her family.
