Salam Canada report by sheik AbderRaouf Ben Halima BISMILLAH ARRAHMAN ARRAHEEMCANADA CAMPAIGN REPORT (TORONTO)Al hamdu lillah, by the will of ALLAH this Canada campaign was a real success despite its short time (one week) and all the difficulties we confronted in preparing this trip.I THE CONTEXT 1) A country where it is «good to live».I find it interesting to give you a look on the country to understand the context we worked in. Canada covers 10 000 000 km2, that is 15 times France for half the population. So most of the roads are large, houses are vast and individual, and a large part of the territory is unused. The Canadian system is copied on the American in technical structures, way of life and most of all consumption (a lot of spending, often excessive, a lot of loans, etc.). Canada as the United States is divided in autonomous states that must respect the national constitution. This is why when Quebec was recently influenced by France and submitted a law to ban niqab in the streets some judges said they will abolish this law if it was voted because it contradicts Canada’s constitution. The brothers told us any ill person in Canada (working or not) was completely covered by the health system: from consultation with a doctor, to specialist, surgery, medicine... Moreover it is not difficult to find a job and hundreds of migrants are received every year to work. Yet immigration is checked very tightly from the airport and I spent nearly two hours interrogation and fetching by the immigration service just behind the border’s control in the airport. For those who don’t work, there is a system of social support, but unlike France, it is a minimum amount to encourage people to actively search for a job and not rely on help. Concerning religion, alhamdu lillah hundreds of mosqs colour the landskape, as well as Islamic centers, Islamic events, madrassas, courses for children, women can work with their veil, brothers with beards, very little constraint for prayer, jumu3a etc.As many people described this situation, I told a Moroccan brother settled since 20 years in Canada: it seems to me it is really good to live here, and he answered with a large smile: «you got it all right: it’s really a place where it is good to live».Another point: Islam progresses faster in the English part. I have already seen this in England. I remember this patient in England telling me: «I work in an American bank and we have a musalla (prayer room) in the bank, we have halal food in the restaurant, and on Friday an imam comes to lead jumu3a prayer in the musalla». So we see sisters with hijab in shops and brothers with beard and topie without any problem. You can’t count the number of Islamic schools where children study the national program and also Quran and Islamic principles. In Canada, Quebec is the only French speaking region and under French influence and the rest speaks English. Muslims in Quebec are mostly North Africans (Moroccans, Algerians) and also from black Africa. In the English part, there are essentially Indians, Pakistanis, Afghans and Somalians but the Indian and Pakistanis are much more present. The difference concerning religion between the French and English zone is the same as between France and England and that in the same country. So we can conclude that the essential problem for organizing nd developing Islam is not the others but ourselves, may Allah awake the Muslims everywhere in the world. We spent a week in Toronto, in the English zone, within the Indian and Pakistani community.2) The roqyaAs soon as we arrived, we quickly understood the (nearly) non existence of the ruqya in Toronto and unfortunately in the whole of Canada. We received patients from all corners of Canada ma sha ALLAH and their testimony is the same: some brothers do a bit of ruqya when they have time, sessions generally only take 15 minutes, they are told to drink some coranized water and they turn the Quran around the person’s head: nothing professional and no deep understanding of the subject. So many go to India or Pakistan or their original country when they have a problem or to sorcerers which is the worse. This is why we received as soon as we arrived a majority of big possession cases that no one treats or tries to treat.Alhamdu lillah, we were received by a young 29 year old imam who did a remarkable work with his wife. He trained on ruqya with a Maurician brother living in Canada and also and mostly with our videos and the ruqya book. He already started treating the patients but needed a ruqya campaign to get more practice and to have a deeper view of our methods. Alhamdu lillah, the brother is very appreciated in his community and is helped by a crew of brothers who come when they can. His main help is his wife who takes care of all the organization: agenda, receiving and directing the patients, etc. May ALLAH bless them and use them for the good. That is the context where we arrived to establish the ruqya work.3) Our objectivesWe are now in the stage 1 of the ruqya and the objective is to establish a permanent ruqya center, to train a maximum of pupils, and also to inform a maximum of people on the subject and insist on the religious leaders in the Indian and Pakistani community who are very influent on the population.II THE CAMPAIGN1) The studentsAlhamdu lillah by the mercy of ALLAH, we haven’t wasted any time: as soon as we arrived, we had 30 pupils. When we came off the plane, 30 pupils were already waiting to receive their first courses. Ma sha ALLAH after 8 hours travel and 6 hours time difference here we are treating our first difficult cases and I am giving course to 30 pupils. As ruqya is not well known and the subject is so fascinating the pupils came in large number. The strong point concerning the students is that most of them are hafiz, alim, mufti or Islamic students. What better could we get to learn ruqya than people already engaged in Islam and knowing Quran ?Amongst our students, some were learning to treat their family members, some to increase their religious knowledge, some by curiosity and some – may Allah bless them – to raise the word of Allah and help out the Muslims that suffer.2) The difficult casesBy the mercy of ALLAH, we managed to treat a lot of patients and especially as I previously mentioned many very difficult possession cases. As we were only two confirmed raqis with the pupils I still wonder how we managed just the two of us to handle all these patients and in the same time the difficult cases that stayed all day long in the center with frequent crisis sometimes all of them together. But we quickly understood that we need to reorganize ourselves. Would it be in this campaign or the previous ones, we often face this problem: we have to handle ordinary cases and in the same time complicated possession cases that can come all together and stay all day. This brings us to a double problem:- Ordinary cases can be penalized because we give them less time- When many patients have crisis together, we keep focused on them and get disorganized. So we decided that every morning one of the 2 raqis will only take difficult cases for one hour each, and we gave them precise appointments for that, while the second raqi will handle the other patients. Alhamdu lillah, by this system we avoided having crisis all day long and we gave more time individually to difficult cases. I remember two cases where we had very good results:- The first one: a sister had djinn and sorcery problems for years and couldn’t even enter the center because of the djinns refusing to let her in. Alhamdu lillah, she returned to Montreal with a great smile, making duaa for us and ready to receive us for a future campaign ma sha ALLAH- The second: this Somali family where the mother and the 2 daughters were having djinn crisis and couldn’t bear listening to Quran. Alhamdu lillah, they left without any reaction to Quran recitation and offered their help for a campaign in their city.So we invite ruqya centers to try this method according to their situation.3) ConferencesAs ruqya is not well known and people have terribly suffered from fake healers, very few mosques accept speeches on this subject and many also fear djinns will attack them later on. Alhamdu lillah, we still managed to do two speeches one of them at Friday prayer. And the best part of it is that the Imam who learned with our videos and organized the campaign did the speech himself and is ready to preach in any place. The second speech was in the Tableegh markaz for the first time ever, may ALLAH accept us. Despite the little number of conferences, we met many imams to whom we gave a maximum of information on the subject so they can educate the community, and we especially explained to them the basic treatment they can give to the people. I suggest we give to each imam we meet a sheet of paper with the basic treatment that he could photocopy and give systematically to his community members rather than telling them: read Ayat Kursi and your illness will go.4) The TaweezAs you know, one of the objectives of our campaigns is to fight shirk, and in this campaign the most widespread shirk is the one hidden in «taweez» (amulets). For those who don’t know taweez and their contents I advise you to read the reports of Reunion Island of sheikh Ben Halima. As in previous campaigns where we met taweez, the people can very hardly understand how their Imams and Alims who taught them everything and lead their prayers and go to Makka and do many good deeds can put them into shirk. When we open the taweez’s, show the contents and give full explanations Alhamdu lillah many people understand the idea and decide to leave shirk. Alhamdu lillah, our organizing Imam is also very determined to fight taweez and explained the shirk it contains in the khutba of jumu3a whereas he is from the Indian Pakistani community and could be excluded himself, may ALLAH protect him. Subhan ALLAH, I still remember the face of an old and very influent imam in Canada when I opened his wife’s taweez’s to protect herself from djinns and there were satanic symbols inside. And he was one of the very first imams in Toronto and is part of many Islamic and city activities, so you see how important it is to inform Muslims on this crucial topic. And he stayed with no answer when I told him: if these taweez’s worked, the djinns wouldn’t still be here and she wouldn’t have come to see us today. Alhamdu lillah, may ALLAH use us to show the truth to His servants.5) Perspectivesa) Establishing a ruqya centerAlhamdu lillah, we have left behind us a team ready to take over with our brother Imam and Alim at its head. With him are two brothers who participated in all the level I and II courses and are very motivated to continue ruqya. They took part in the training despite their jobs, asking their bosses to leave earlier to join us and sometimes came at lunch break ma sha ALLAH. One of them told us he was very engaged in Islam before and used to dream of Prophet sws every week, but with the djinn and sihr problems that hit his family, he had to stop his activities and since did not find again his spiritual level, and with the roqya we propose and our objectives he said he is living again and feels he could be useful as he was in the past. Alhamdu lillah, our team is already taking over and the brothers are sending us questions about the new cases they are treating after we left.b) The expansion of the workAlhamdu lillah, after the Toronto campaign, we have proposals at Montreal, Calgary and even USA. A longer campaign in sha ALLAH in January will allow us to develop the work in Toronto (many imams are satisfied of the work achieved and now want to open us their doors), and in other cities and in USA in sha ALLAH. As a conclusion, by the mercy of ALLAH we can say we have planted the first flag of the ruqya and the battle against shirk in North America.May ALLAH accept us, open all doors of good to us and use us for the good of Islam and His creatures.Mohammed Rabi3 (mouhammedr@gmail)
