Samuel Rahbar, M.D., Ph.D, dedicated his career to researching the causes and treatments of diabetes and cancer. His discovery of Hemoglobin A1c revolutionized the way diabetes is treated and managed and has improved the lives of tens of millions of diabetic patients around the world. The hemoglobin A1c test is now ordered over 2.1 million times daily around the world and is regarded as the gold standard for assessing long-term blood sugar levels. With this discovery, he also established an entirely new field of diabetes research called glycation. Throughout his life, he was passionately committed to the pursuit of finding better treatments for patients coping with diabetes and its complications. In his later work, he explored the link between cancer and diabetes. One of his most promising breakthroughs is the drug COH-SR4 that has been shown to have great promise as a chemotherapeutic agent for colon, brain, ovarian, breast, prostate, and kidney cancer, as well as leukemia, osteosarcoma (bone cancer), and obesity. Despite his untimely passing in 2012, efforts are being made to ensure that his research and clinical trials of COH-SR4 continue at the City of Hope clinical and research facility. Your support today will enhance Dr. Rahbar’s legacy and allow City of Hope to continue its research into new therapies and treatments for patients everywhere suffering from these life-threatening diseases. Your support is greatly appreciated. --The Rahbar Family
