Sarcastic Scottie: As most individuals that live with a Scottie - TopicsExpress

Sarcastic Scottie: As most individuals that live with a Scottie know, their mind and what they want or desire is ever changing. Finding a treat that a Scottie likes, can be a fleeting experience, as there is no guarantee that one particular gobbled down goodie will be acceptable down the line. Dealing with the very particular tastes of a Scottie can be rather disheartening. Like when your Scottie stares straight ahead and refuses to even acknowledge the offered treat. Of course, the next level up is the turned head, as if the proffered treat was exceedingly repugnant. Sometimes, even though the rejected offering has been the preferred and go-to treat in the past - Ill switch to a different treat and happily watch its eager acceptance. But other times, when either Im in a hurry or perhaps the third different treat has been rejected, I simply place the item up on the counter and go about my business. Often, when Im done ironing a shirt or come back downstairs, I find that the same treat is now suddenly quite acceptable. But, then there is the dreaded sarcastic Scottie phase, which if not for the pure entertainment value, could scald the owner by its very display. The sarcastic Scottie, as displayed by Niven, seems to have three basic modes with increasing degrees of attitude. One, the Scottie takes the treat, only to then let it simply fall out of the mouth without even a glance downward or acknowledgment of landed location. Two, the treat is firmly taken into the mouth, but then flipped down with disdain. Three, which is perhaps a more advanced treatment of the second action, is to take the treat and sharply fling the item away, sometimes with a sudden side head motion that ensures the scorned item lands far away from the Scottie. I have noticed that, upon occasion, not providing any dessert treats right after the regular meal, while greatly increasing the head butt reminders to the ankle, does sometimes increase the possibility of first acceptance of a treat that was shunned in the past. Nonetheless, the only guarantee when dealing with a Scottie, is that at some point...they will change their mind without any obvious reason to their owners. And, I have to admit, that as perverse as it may seem to those that prefer other breeds, that ever changing interaction is one of the charms of having a Scottie about.
