Saturday, Dec. 20th “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus - TopicsExpress

Saturday, Dec. 20th “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.” Mark 1:1 Mark’s gospel (the word “gospel” means “good news”) does not begin with angels, or shepherds, flocks or wise men. There is no innkeeper, stable, or star. The good news that Mark was so excited to share has none of the trappings and details that we’ve tossed into the blender with so many other cultural bits like Christmas trees, plum pudding, elves, reindeer and Santa Claus. Mark has none of it. Mark also doesn’t spend a whole lot of time trying to fit his good news into a preconceived idea of what God is up to, or into some sort of deep, religious ideology. What Mark does have, what Mark shares with all of us, is a story. The story of a God who came to us in flesh and blood – in the form of a baby - to be intimately entwined with our stories. The gift of Jesus, the good news of Jesus, the hope and promises that are ours in Jesus, is a story: the greatest story the world has ever known! And it is a story that continues to get written in our stories, in our lives as God continues to move among us and within us to shake and to stir us into even greater faith... into even greater service and witness to others. Christmas is all about the story. And each of us are called to KNOW the story, BE the story, and TELL the story. God’s story. Our story. Prayer: “Lord, let your story live in our stories and let our stories be a light unto the world.” Amen
