Saturday January 10 9PM Ethan Collister Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Ethan Collister has entertained audiences across Canada with his words and music. His forthcoming album Dear Bastards will be released October 18th, 2014. Dear Bastards will be Collisters fifth full-length release. During the three years in which Dear Bastards was written, Ethan Collister worked at a residential treatment program for youth challenged by mental health and addiction issues. Through this experience he became conscious of the many individuals who lack a voice to express what is most important to them. Collister became inspired to write an album that would address the challenges of human experience and deliver a hopeful message. The result is an evocative collection of material with a theme of resiliency. Songs that explore hopelessness and despair are offset by others that portray loves ability to heal and conquer. Musically the album maintains a minimalist aesthetic. Collisters vocals and guitar work are supported by Calgary music scene veterans Spider Bishop (upright bass) and Aleksandra Danicic (violin). The trios sparse arrangements are focused, inspired and emotionally expressive. Dear Bastards was produced by Craig Newnes and Spencer Cheyne and was recorded live off the floor at the Station Recording Company in Calgary, Alberta. Recorded exclusively with ribbon microphones and mixed entirely in analogue, the album captures the live energy of Collisters trio with warmth and clarity. The recording of Dear Bastards was funded by a grant from Rawlco Radio. Ethan Collisters previous release Inner Alchemy was well received and earned a nomination at the 2013 Western Canadian Music Awards. Songs from Inner Alchemy were used in a documentary film entitled The Occupation. The film chronicles the rise and fall of Vancouvers Occupy Movement. https://youtube/watch?v=coGvNo-cX-w
