Saw Blood Song outdoor play tonight in McCarr, Kentucky. Its about my familys feud with the McCoys. Great job by all. I loved the setting, with the Tug River flowing by and the mountains all around. Coal trains went by every 20 minutes, their whistles wailing up and down the hollows and hills as darkness fell. The cast freezes when this happens and resumes when the sounds fade into a distance. Driving the 50 miles back to the Lodge I pass where my great uncle was stabbed on Election Day, where my other great uncle, Preacher Anse lived, where my great grandfather Devil Anses nemesis, Randolph McCoy lived until the terrible New Years night murders. I put the top down and saw lightening flashing to the south , the mountains silhouetted against it. 73 cool degrees, fog in the valleys, and a sliver of an orange moon over all. Perfect Kentucky/West Virginia night! I feel so at home here.
