Saw this on a fellow rescuers page, and after some paraphrasing, decided to share: Do you need help re-homing your dog, your friends dog, a stray dog, or want a rescue to pull a dog out of animal control because it doesnt deserve to die? Do you think it is the rescues responsibility or duty to make this work out for the dog because after all they are a rescue and thats what they are supposed to do? A rescue is a person or organization of several people, working either by themselves or together, to rehabilitate, keep alive, and find a forever home for the pet. Believe it or not, that rescue person is just like you. They have things to do, a family, a job, a busy life, and they want to see every dog get a chance, just like you. There are no magical fairies that appear to pay for vetting, to house the dogs whilst they await adoption, to drive them to appointments, to pick them up at the shelter. So we do what we can do within the limitations we have: financial, people, space and emotional wear and tear. How can you contribute? Can you spread the word about adoption? Help to break down the barrier that shelter pets have to being seen as adoptable and adorable by educating others? Can you contribute financially? Transport a dog? Sponsor a fundraiser? Crosspost for rescues? Vacation foster a dog? Pledge to adopt an animal that needs a home versus buying from a breeder? Volunteer? What skills and talents do you have that you could share with a rescue group or shelter? Think on that.
