Scholarships Available For Nursing Students October 9, 2014 Contact: Jeremy Sampson, (517) 335-2167 Scholarships Available For Nursing Students Nearly 50 Colleges and Universities in Michigan to participate The Michigan Department of Treasury, Student Financial Services Bureau announced today, the availability of a limited number of $4,000 Michigan Nursing Scholarship (MNS) awards. The scholarships are for students currently enrolled in a nursing program pursing a LPN, ADN, BSN or MSN and will be offered beginning in the Spring of 2015. A total of $1.2 million in scholarships will be awarded to approximately 50 colleges and universities that will participate in the MNS program. Each participating institution will receive funding for up to 6 scholarships. Awards will be made at the college level, those students who are interested should contact their institutions financial aid office for an application and eligibility criteria information. “These scholarships will go a long way toward alleviating the potential for a shortage of qualified nurses in Michigan by educating our nursing students,” said Anne Wohlfert, Acting Director of the Student Financial Services Bureau. “This program will be helpful to the next generation of health care workers, as they prepare and train for the future.” Students who accept an award must agree to gain nursing licensure and eligible direct care nursing employment, or eligible employment as a teacher of nursing in Michigan within one year of completing the academic program. Students must be enrolled at least half time in a nursing program at an approved Michigan community college, public university or independent degree-granting college or university. Awardees must agree to repay the scholarship if the work requirements or other program provisions are not met. For additional information please visit michigan.gov/ssg.
