#ScienceatSea Speaking of #sanctuaries, TAS 14 Amy Orchard describes helping scientists survey Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary on board NOAA Ship Nancy Foster: All week we have had the privilege of using the Remotely Operated Vehicle... It has two cameras, one that provides still photographs and the other takes high-definition video. Both are geo-referenced so we know exactly which latitude and longitude we are working... This amazing piece of equipment has allowed us to see down to depths that the divers would not have been able to reach. It has also allowed us lengthy bottom times that the divers would not have been able to sustain. - TAS 14 Amy Orchard tinyurl/m94nm64 Photos: [Top] Here you can see the ROV awaiting its plunge into the ocean waters. It is gently lifted by one of the ship’s many cranes and slowly taken off the deck and lowered overboard. [Bottom] Scamp Groupers - Mycteroperca phenax
