Score one for old Kirk. The first accounts of a pagan holiday - TopicsExpress

Score one for old Kirk. The first accounts of a pagan holiday (dedicated to Sol Invictus) celebrated on Dec. 25th came *after* Christians are first recorded as celebrating Christmas; the Romans were trying to swamp the Christian holiday with a pagan one. As for why December 25th? The Jews had a tradition that prophets died on the day they were conceived. Childbirth typically takes 9 months. Christ was crucified on March 25th. Whats 3+9? (This is also why the Annunciation is celebrated on March 25th.)
