Scott Park Land Swap Contrary To City Council Vote on School - TopicsExpress

Scott Park Land Swap Contrary To City Council Vote on School Closures Moratorium In March of this year Hamilton City Council voted unanimously on a motion by Councillor Merulla to ask the Province of Ontario to support a moratorium on school closures. Going forward with a land swap with the HWDSB with respect to the expropriated Scott Park School will have the effect of triggering the closure of two Secondary Schools , Sir John A Macdonald and Delta. This plan has already resulted in the closure Parkview Community School for special needs students and will likely result in the demolition of our heritage School King George School. It will also put Westdale School already bursting at the seams in the position of having to add portable classrooms to accommodate many of the students from the closure of Sir John A Macdonald. The land swap will put the taxpayers of the City of Hamilton at further legal risk as a result of the deal as the case has now been filed with the OMB. The HWDSBs case is on shaky ground and Hamilton City Council is at risk of inheriting this problem. The City Council call for a moratorium is in direct conflict with the proposed land swap.
