I think I rolled the mats incorrectly so they tended to come apart as I cut them. I had a couple of short cuts where my reach was not enough to completely cut through the target. 4 beach mats - not the best for this. I still need work on my Yoko Ichimonji cut (lateral cut). I watched this for some good tips. This guy is magnificent, so precise and powerful. Western eyes may see it as slow and not much going on, but the devotion to precision and spiritual power in Budo insures that the skills will come out in a real situation. When you can deliver a cut and the mat hasnt moved, that is mastery. In Kyudo (archery), you dont care about hitting the target.
