Seems like I am writing to my MP every five minutes these days..here is my latest letter addressing the UK bill which is proposing to prohibit non-politicians from speaking up on issues which affect us all. If you value free speech - please get involved with this campaign now - the first vote is on Tuesday... Hi Peter - do you know about the lobbying bill which is being rushed through parliament? I have read about it online through 38 degrees and feel very concerned that it has grave implications for free speech and democratic ways of working. As I understand it, the bill would gag campaigning from charities and community groups for the entire year before a general election. This seems bizarre to me! But then so many bizarre decisions are taking place at the moment - I thought it best to check in with you as my local representative and seek assurance that you would not consider supporting any legislation which threatened free speech and democratic decision making. As you know, I am an avid campaigner on issues which are important to me, so may I ask you to represent my right to speak up on political issues and voice my concerns as one of your constituents at the second reading on Tuesday? Needless to say I support you to vote against the bill proceeding, or at the very least insist that it is given proper scrutiny in committee stage. Thank you most kindly Natalia Brown (Cleeve Prior) P.S Thank you for visiting our traveller site - your visit gave much needed hope and inspiration to village residents and travellers alike. 38 degrees advise the following links for further information on why this bill is causing concern: You can read more about the problems with the plans here: NCVO briefing: blogs.ncvo.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/our-briefing-on-the-Transparency-of-lobbying-bill.pdf Electoral Commission briefing: electoralcommission.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0007/156580/Transparency-of-Lobbying-Non-Party-Campaigning-and-Trade-Union-Administration-Bill-Second-Reading-Briefing.pdf The view of an electoral law specialist: libdemvoice.org/the-independent-view-concerns-about-lobbying-bill-are-not-alarmist-35938.html Legal opinion from BWB bwbllp/knowledge/2013/08/29/bwb-warns-new-laws-on-non-party-campaigners-pose-a-serious-threat/
