Seminar groupies ain’t slapping my bootay A question was asked last week: “Rob, why do you never speak at seminars?” Easy answer … Not a fan. Especially the Internet Marketing … Positive Attitude … MLM … Self Esteem seminars. (And believe me I’ve been asked/pleaded to speak at these on a few occasions). What I’m told (from a reliable source) is that those IM seminars are just for networking. Where in the evening you’ll find a gaggle of Gooey Roos knocking back pints at the hotel bar (while trying to impress the young impressionable bar maid), slap each other on the bootay, talk about the size of their … erm… lists and arrange to promote each others ‘next BIG thang’ that they are about to launch. (Oh and go ogle each others Lamborghini - car of choice now for most Gooey Roos/Life Coaches). And the Positive Attitude/Self Esteem seminars feature some guy in snake-skin cowboy boys trying to persuade a bunch of miserable sods to dance around the hall hugging each other. Me thinks, seminars are just events where speakers indulge in a bit of sales ‘pitch’ feast. Speaker after speaker skip on stage (usually to the sound track from Rocky, or a Queen song) high five one ‘n’ other and then spend the next hour or so pitching their product that (surprise surprise) is heavily discounted JUST for the day. Once sales pitch has finished, the hall is electric as the marketer/life coach, self-esteem’er groupies queue up excitedly to buy their next ‘fix’ (to add to their stack of shame) from their favourite speaker. Hey, I’m not saying ALL seminars are bad … there are some notable exceptions where you do actually learn a great deal without having to shell out for the speakers product/DVD set they just happen to be flogging at the time. So, you can see, seminars don’t really register on me ‘bothered-o-meter’. But what does register is the importance of driving traffic to squeeze pages, monetizing it, generating sales and running it all on auto-pilot. I feel more comfortable pitching my products to a list I build than standing in front of a few hundred/thousand excited attendees in my cream chinos, ill fitting shirt and ‘comedy’ tie trying desperately to be funny and getting the crowd ‘worked up’ to buy me products. Anyway, that’s just the way I see seminars … you may disagree. You can get your traffic driving, list building and sales generating secrets here: trafficmegastar/ Have a great weekend.
