Sermon Title : Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch. Bible : Acts 8:26~40 The names meaning of Philip is a man who loves hose. Philip was a Grecian Jew and he was the one of seven deacons, who was an powerful missionary for the Gentiles. In a further saying for Philip. 1. Philip was chosen for the responsibility instead of the disciples in the church. The seven deacons were chosen for the administration of the church. That was a big event in the churchs history. In Acts 8, the Jerusalem church chosen seven men who were known to be full of faith and the Holy Spirit. The disciples presented them to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them(v.6). This principle was a good example for a nowadays morden churches. The first problem occuered in the Jerusalem church that was about financial and in daily distribution of food for between the Grecian Jews(헬라파유대인) and Hebraic Jews(히브리파유대인). Becsuse Grecian widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. And they complained against the Hebraic Jews. And so the Twelve(열두사도) gathered all the disciples together and said, It wouldnt be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables And they chose seven men from the members who were known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. Therefore the Twelve turned that responsibility over to them(일곱집사). As a result the Jerusalem churchs problem was resolved by the seven deacons. These administration should be needed in modern times churches and pastoral works. So to speak, the faithful deacons should be considered as co-workers for pastors. 2. The signs and miracles were occurred through the Philips missionary. There was a diaspora caused by Stepanos the Martyr and Jerusalem churchs persecution, in consequence, many saints were scattered to Jude and Samaria excepting Apostles. Philip couldnt stop avoiding the persecution and then went to Samaria. At that time, Jews hated the Samaritans the mixed blood by the Gentiles. On the contrary, Philip proclaimed the Gospel as the Jesus command in Acts1:8 you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and youll be my witness in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samria, and to the ends of the earth. Therefore, the Holy Spirits works and miracles were occurred to the Samaria. 3. In Acts 8:26 An angel of the Lord said to Philip. Go to the road-the desert road-that goes down Jerusalem to Gaza. Finally, Philip could meet an Ethiopian eunuch(내시), the important official in charge of all the treasury of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who had gone to Jerusalem to warship. And on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah the prophet. Pililp was guided by the Holy Spirit to the chariot. So the eunuch invited Philip to come up and sit with him. And the eunuch didnt understand the passages of Isaiah the prophet that was saying about Messiah. Philip explained and had him be recognized. The eunuch accepted Jesus through the Words of God. He was saved and then baptized by Philip(Acts 8:38). Consequently, this eunuch became the first evangelist in Ethiopia and preached the Gospel to the queen Gandace of Ethiopians according to the legend. 1. 예배참석을 중요시 여기는 자에게 하나님은 은혜를 베푸신다. God gives his grace for those who love worship. The eunuch had a long travel from Ethiopia to Jerusalem for attending one of the three Jewish religious warship. 2. 하나님은 말씀을 사모하는 자에게 진리를 깨닫게 하신다. God gives his grace for those who are devoted themselves to the words of God. The eunuch loved the Gods words even though, his long traveling in the desert, he read the bible loudly in his chariot. The Holy Spirit commanded Philip going to the eunuch and had him be recognized. Amen. From Young Lee Seoul Korea.
