Sham assesses damage to villages along Chenab JAMMU, JUNE 14 - Minister for PHE, Irrigation, Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma, on Friday visited river Chenab to assess the damage caused to land and road along the right bank of the river due to recent rain in upper areas besides taking stock of restoration and prevention measures being taken up by the department. The Minister visited village Sangrampur, Chanjawan, Dalpatpore, Chack Kirpalpur, Shitrawalla, Chack Skinder Indesi and Bakore located on right back of the river and took stock of restoration works being done there by the concerned department. He instructed the Chief Engineer, FC, to complete these works on war footing. Addressing on the occasion, the Minister also appealed the people as well as Sarpanchs and Panchs of the areas to extend cooperation to the executing agencies for better and effective implementation of development programme. He said that Government is keen to reach out to people in every area for redressal of their grievances and demands in a phased manner. “Panchayat would help determine the schemes, formulate plans and execute work as per the requirement of the areas under their jurisdiction” he added. Sham informed that a comprehensive plan for channelization of river Chenab is under active consideration of the Government and the work of this prestigious project would be started as soon as all formalities are completed. He also said that Government is keen to address the concerns of flood hit areas on priority. Chief Engineer, PHE, K.K.Gupta, Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control, Ashwani Badyal, Superintendent and Executive Engineer, PHE, Irrigation, Flood Control , SDM, Tehsildar Akhnoor, Sarpanchs and Panchs were present on the occasion.
