Shared... In another forum where I have been discussing Fukushima Daiichi (Earth wReaked) the following question was posed by Rick Hill in a Thread I had started with the photo/story below. Why is there so little legit coverage of this nightmare... I have been tracking it from day one and there has been an unbelievable failure on the part of lame-stream to cover this issue. I find alternative sources, at least on this topic, to often be less scientific than I might like... As a scientist, I can follow climate and ecosystem collapse issues, but nuclear meltdown is outside of my knowledge base. Very frustrating and scary! This is my unedited reply. I think this is a fantastic question that we all need the answer too. Id like some contributions and rebuttals of my thoughts as you see fit. Here is my initial reply; Ill take an unscientific stab at your question if you like Rick? 1) The Trillion Dollar Nuclear Industry is at risk of total failure as a result of this disaster. It would make all the economic sense in the world for them to spend Billions keeping it quiet and controling the debate so as to protect their investment. 2) I personally believe that the exclusion zone around Fukushima Daiichi should probably be of a magnitude of 10 or 20 times greater than it is which brings us to the evacuation of Tokyo!!! 3) There is no civil defense plan on this planet for the evacuation of 20/30million people ( Greater Tokyo and surrounding area;worldpopulationreview/world.../tokyo-population/ ) 4) If the threat to the health of these people in a multi generational sense is as catastrophically bad as I believe it to be this disaster effectively dooms the above people and naturally the economy of Japan which is the 4th largest on this planet (en.wikipedia.org/.../List_of_countries_by_largest...) 5) The downstream effect of the total collapse of the Japanese economy, a scenario that would not have been analysed in many publicly available models on the Global economy would be of epic proportions. 6) The moral dilema for the rest of the world of extending the hand of help and hope to the people of Japan would not fit into any business model available under our all pervading Cowboy Capitalist System not to mention that the Japanese peoples usefulness would have diminished and instead of being an engine of growth they would become an economic burden and the time honoured spectre of racism would manifest( in this students eyes) very quickly. That is a brief overview. You have posed an excellent question and I shall continue to develop on these answers after I have dried my eyes. This was Ricks reply; Seems like there would be much more coverage if it really is as bad as feared... Regardless, melt down poses an existential threat due to the spent fuel storage crisis... Subsequently I came up with this; Rick, I have described the lack of cover as A cone of Silence. I believe it is partially covered above but there are Geo-Political considerations which havent been discussed which will be very significant. Age old rivalries in the region between the Japanese, Koreans and China percolate below the surface. Japans new secrecy laws are another factor... the more I ponder this question the more reasons I see. Additionally I believe that the Mainstream Media is owned by many of the vested interest groups listed above and they have an interest in keeping this story quiet. It is a Bloody good question and it requires a bloody good answer. I would like a critique of where I have started and further contributions to the answer on the Why and then Id like to discuss what we are going to do about it. The hallmarks of a developed, open and informed Democracy is that the populace are kept well informed and educated to the primary issues they are confronted with and it is patently clear to me that this is simply not happening on the Issue of Fukushima Daiichi ( I wont go into Climate Change in this thread but I believe that it is a parallel Issue/Universe).
