She is not elegantly dressed but that appears to be the best she got to cover her body. Her hair was not the best as compared to what the modern ladies/students at the university do. She is pregnant and barefooted!! It was that cold Johannesburg afternoon. She waltz passed the multitude of students in the cafeteria(student hall) to reach me in the front of the queue. In her deep isiZulu accent she asked me to buy her lunch because she had nothing to eat since that morning. I looked at her in amazement, I did not have much to say. I did not have enough money to give!! Many questions raced in my mind. I was overwhelmed with serious emotions and I sacrificed my lunch without thinking. My fellow students asked me whether do I know her and my answer was No! Then why give her or sacrifice your lunch for her, they asked. My answer was straight one, she is hungry and she had no one to turn to except me, that was my response!! She thank me, took her lunch, sat down and ate the lunch quietly. I was seriously touched by her by her plight. Though she is possibly poor (not out of her own making), pregnant (possibly deceived by her boyfriend, maybe out of carelessness, maybe divorced or maybe raped or maybe many more other reason), but she is determined to changed her conditions through education. I hope and wish that she completes her degree and make something out of her life. As I was writing this note in my room this morning, I was thinking about her whether she has had her dinner last night, whether she will have breakfast this morning. I can only hope since I do not know her name, her background or anything about her. I hope and pray she achieves her dreams!!! ***based on the story yesterday at Wits University*** While izikhothane zidlala ngemali there are people in dire strain. While nichitha ukudla and feeding dogs, there are people who never had anything to eat last night. Whilst you complain about everything and anything, there are people who can appreciate the little that you have. Good morning!!!
