She thought she was in love A lot of people ask whether romantic love exist in Islam? What does it look like...and what does it not look like? Romantic love does exist...after marriage. Before that..love exists because there is no harm in loving someone for the sake of Allah and to pray for them. But a lot of people are falling in this LOVE trap. Why? Here is a story of a girl named Sarah. When Sarah met Ahmed, she immediately knew that he was everything that shes always dreamed of. His warmth melted the cold but soon admiration turned into worship. Before she could understand what had happened, she became a prisoner of her own desire and craving for that which she adored. Everywhere she looked, she saw nothing but him. Happiness had no meaning without him. Nothing felt closer to her than him. He became to her like the very blood in her veins. Sarah thought she was in love. Everything revolved around Ahmed and she became a captive of her own desire and admiration. It was this captivity that Ibn Taymiyyah (R.A), one of the greatest classic scolars spoke when he said: The one who is truly imprisoned is the one whose heart is imprisoned from God and the captivated one is the one whose desires have enslaved him. This kind of agony and love consumed Sarah...but never filled her. What was worse was the torturous result of putting something in a place only Allah should be. Our nature is to recognise the oneness of Allah and to actualize this truth in our lives. Therefore...there is NO calamity, NO loss and NO thing that will cause more pain to us that putting something or someone equal to Allah im our lives and heart. This is purely Shirk.. - Yasmin Mogahed
