Sheep by the Sea Accomac Public Library 23610 Front Street Accomac, VA by Nancy Ferguson Author, Educator and Spinner The Friends of the Eastern Shore Public Library presents Sheep by the Sea, a program about the Hog Island sheep and the women who spun their wool. This hardy breed of sheep was brought to Hog Island by English settlers in the 1600’s and they continued to be an integral part of island life until the 1933 hurricane forced its abandonment. In addition to a spinning demonstration, Ferguson will talk about the sheep and the lives of the women who for three centuries depended on them for wool, clothing and meat. The evening is free and refreshments will be served Contact Nancy Petersen 757-787-2589
