Sheffield foster caring couple appointed MBEs in recognition of work A husband and wife who have fostered more than 80 children over 30 years have been appointed MBEs. Harry and Christine Burditt, both 71, from Sheffield, are among 14 people in South Yorkshire to be honoured in the Queens Birthday Honours list. Other people recognised include University of Sheffield professor Alan Walker, who was appointed CBE. The Lord Lieutenant of Sheffield David Moody was made a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order. Mrs Burditt, who took up fostering while working as an auxiliary nurse in the 1980s, said: Harry and I are just overwhelmed by it all. Why should we [be honoured]? Were only working class. Were only doing a job. Weve done this for 30 years. I suppose this is a little bonus and shows that people do respect the work weve done.
