Shikari gang busted from Changlang August 3, 2013 1:14 PM INDRAJIT TINGWA Chongkham, AUG 2 A notorious gang named Shikari from Chongkham Chakma Basti-l were busted today. Tutsa Kishore Chakma also known as Shirari ,33 years, originally from Karbi Anglong, Assam and presently resident of Chongkham Chakma Basti-l, the gang leader along with two accomplices and two others who gave them shelter are finally in police custody. Shikari gang earned notoriety for the kidnap of Rajen Mewar, manager of the tea garden of MLA CT Mein located at Tengapani near Emphum village on 15 of January last. Later the gang also abducted one Harnath Chowdhury, also a manager of a tea garden at Namliang near Chongkham but the abductees managed to escape without getting hurt or paying ransom. On July 30, Shikari with an accomplice Shingo Siji Chakma of 24 years , s/o Late Lakhidhan Chakma r/o Chongkham Chakma Basti-l along with Denga Chakma at Sadhan,22 years, s/o Pardeep Chakma,r/o Chongkham Chakma Basti-l who was sheltering the duo were nabbed by a joint team of Police and Army from the Diyun area in Changlang district. In the second instance, another accomplice, Bidhan Chakma of Chongkham Chakma Basti-l was arrested along with his elder brother Bordenga Chakma who was sheltering him from the Kharsang-Namchik area under Miao Sub-Division. All the five are in the custody of Namsai police. Police recovered a country made gun, AK-47 toy gun from their possession. During interrogation as per police sources Shikari and his accomplices are learnt to have confessed to the kidnappings and receiving an undisclosed amount for the release of Rajen Mewar. They have also maintained that the escapees from the Chongkham Police lock-up had been in touch with them with the interest of joining the gang. Shikari is said to have told the interrogators that he had visited Bangladesh and Tripura after receiving the ransom money. It has also been ascertained that the gang actually comprised six members. As of now three are still at large and they are Morodchobo Chakma, Boksi Chakma and Anildhan Chakma. The trio is said to have absconded to somewhere in South India.
