Since Tuesday started Autism Awareness Month, and the 2nd was World Autism Awareness Day, I thought I would update on Ainslies year since her diagnosis. We are participating in the Autism Society of Dayton 5k on April 26th at 9 am, and would LOVE to have you join us! All the proceeds stay in Dayton to help families in Dayton affected by autism. I feel like we have turned a corner with her. If nothing else, we have gone from appointments where they would talk about what Ainslie cant do, to what she is doing or starting to do. And that simple shift makes a world of difference. Her engagement is better, and I think getting better all the time. She is leading us to what she wants (usually cookies!) and has started to point to pictures to show us what she wants. She is also following instructions and can point to her letters and numbers with pretty good accuracy. I truly believe she is one smart cookie, she just cant tell us. Ha Our little bug starts preschool this year! She is going to learn routine & what it is like in a classroom this summer at Cadens school, and then transition to a public preschool in August. As daddy, this thought scares me to death. But like all the other areas in her life, she is surrounded with love. We continue to take her to multiple therapies. Ainslie has 3 more months in the Greene County Help Me Grow program....with her one of two most favorite people...our Ms Jenny. Ive boasted her many qualities on here before, but in all seriousness, we dont know where Ainslie would be without her. She has become family. Karens parents continue to be saints, and with me, integral to Ainslies progress. We have taken on so much to help with her. We cant ever show them enough gratitude! I think Ainslie knows it, too. Grandma & Papaw are her other favorite people! She is Daddys Princess...having Me wrapped around her finger. Its funny to watch when she knows she has done something wrong. Shell watch for my reaction while she walks to Karen looking so sad! She can so play me! Ha When it comes to her outcome, it will always be a work in progress. But, when I read about how bad it could be, I thank God that our daughter does interact, does love to be held, does have the most wonderful, infectious laugh, and makes strides all the time! Not to mention - as cute as can be! She always amazes me, and I thank God He gave us this perfect daughter! So, during this month, keep our little girl, and others with autism, in your thoughts. Be aware, be understanding, be compassionate, be patience and most of all.....be loving
