Six days have passed. The series finale of The Newsroom aired - TopicsExpress

Six days have passed. The series finale of The Newsroom aired six nights ago. Im watching it again (for the fifth time) tonight. If youre still asking not to be handed spoiler alerts at this point, Im afraid the statute of limitations have expired. The saying the show must go on may not ever again hold true for this incredible creation of Aaron Sorkin, but for the the fictional characters of Will McAvoy and the employees of ACN, the newscast does indeed go on. Im quite sure that every television show Ive ever watched featured characters, subplots or lines of dialogue that tugged at my heartstrings. I can think of a few shows, M*A*S*H, In Treatment, St. Elsewhere, in particular that featured characters I found familiar. Theres a hole in the side of a boat. That hole is never going to be fixed and its never going away and you cant get a new boat. This is your boat. What you have to do is bail water out faster than its coming in. -- Will McAvoy Never before has one show or one main character so completely encapsulated what I saw in myself. The man -- facing his own mid-life crisis, desperately seeking to find a balance between what makes a person into a career and what makes a career into a person -- that man is myself and I am that man. Ill miss seeing Will McAvoy in new adventures, new pieces of dialogue. Ill always wonder What Would Will Do in certain situations, be they my own or whenever I watch another real time news network covering real-time news events. I can only promise that my own mission to civilize will mirror that of Will McAvoys. It should be something we all strive towards. As the dawn of a year new shortly arrives, I look back at what Ive done this year. We all do. This mission is far from over. We cannot ever be satisfied with a job undone. Progress is slow, but Im in it for the long haul.
