Six welfare charities have issued an updated report about the current equine crisis in the UK, entitled “Left on the verge: In the grip of a horse crisis in England and Wales”. The RSPCA, Redwings, World Horse Welfare, the BHS, the Blue Cross and HorseWorld teamed up in 2012 to highlight the enormous problems currently being faced both by the welfare charities and the government, and they have now issued an update with figures demonstrating that the situation is getting more serious by the day. The report reveals that the number of horses deemed at risk of needing rescue or new homes across the UK is now around 7,000 – a rise of 1,000 in just six months.
