When such illegibility persists to the point of impairing academic progress, keyboarding may be key to independent expression, and academic success. With support, Dysgraphia may improve as students mature. However when a child has completed 2nd/3rd grade and has dysfluent handwriting, learning touch keyboarding skills can dramatically improve academic development. One instructional program is KAZ-type, a unique approach which has the added feature of audio instruction for the older developing student. A well recognized, popular program is Mavis Beacon (for PC and for MAC), and another is TypingWeb. Students with a physical impairment which limits handwriting, with guidance, can successfully learn touch typing skills as young as first/second grade.
