Smriti Irani is apparently going to get the HRD. This is very interesting. Before she became a phenomenon on television, she was apparently an IAS aspirant. Then she became an almost-Miss India, and thereafter the favourite daughter-in-law of Indian television, progressively more regressive. As an American-Indian fan of the show pointed out to me, she then became a home-wrecker by having a relationship with her friends husband, whom she later married (Americans set an abnormal public stock by other peoples marital lives - far more than even our conservative country). She was a vocal critic of Modi post-Godhra, and then his sworn and passionate protector. Now shes a key minister in his government. This is just an idle speculation, but I wonder, given her chequered past (especially the home-wrecking) in what other countries would she have risen to this prominence?
