Snow and ice on sidewalks can impede the ability of people to get around safely – including pedestrians with service animals, walkers, wheelchairs and strollers. For that reason, the City has a by-law in place requiring owners or occupants of property to completely clear snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their properties by midnight of the first day after precipitation has ended. Residents, businesses and landlords are responsible for continuing to shovel their sidewalks and for applying salt/sand if their sidewalks remain or become slippery again.
