So I am in the very early stages of trying to put together a Homeless Surf Event through Jesus Keys. I was inspired by Dane Kealoha one of the greatest surfers of all time to try to put this event together. Dane led a Homeless Surf Event in Hawaii that was a great success. I am in touch with Dane and talking with a couple San Diego Surf Shops asking for the use of surfboards and wetsuits for the day of the event. But as I am working on this event I need people who would be interested in helping in various ways. Here is what I am looking for: 1. Surfers who would want to help homeless participants to surf. You dont have to be an expert just willing to help push people into waves and encourage them. 2. People that are lifeguards and first aid certified to just be available to help in anyway that maybe needed on the day of the event. 3. People just to help with the overall event, help organize, serve food, build friendships with the participants. I have no dates set yet I still have lots of details that will have to come together but imagine how much joy could be brought to those living on the streets to have a day just for them to learn to surf. Then after the day of surfing I want to end the day with food and live music all for the homeless.
