So I took E to the gaming store in West Barnstable the other day - TopicsExpress

So I took E to the gaming store in West Barnstable the other day and he begged to get this game. As it had a layer of dust on it they gave us a discount and my son brought it home in his greedy mitts. We (7-year old, wife and me) have played three games of it so far. Its a fun game, easy to play but with a lot of complexity and strategy BUT the pieces are fiddly (ship tokens are half-sized pirates of the Spanish main kits that were a pain to assemble, and the cannons are held in place with magnets that are always getting stuck to one another), and the instructions are laid out rather confusingly. Also, the board was warped. That said, were already talking about replacing fiddly tokens with better ones (perhaps even custom pieces) and even scanning the board and asking a company like Frontier if theyd do a replacement (they make gaming mats put of the same material as used for mouse pads, and are pretty awesome). Have you ever played a board game (or similar) and decided you needed to customize the experience (beyond sanctioned expansion packs etc.)?
