So Im new to this community. I posted greetings from my girl Lucy last week and feel very grateful to have a venue to share our stories / help each other. That said I am hoping for some support/suggestions from you guys due to what has been an absolute Veterinary Care disaster over the past week that has rendered her extremely ill. Please bear with my airing of frustrations. So, after adopting/ immediately falling in love w/Lucy (1 year old) two weekends ago from a mobile outreach...we brought her in to a very reputable Manhattan clinic down the block, in fact, they were the ones working with the adoption center and were a participating member of the free initial checkup. Lucy was in perfect health, a doll, and our other pup (15) had just had surgery so we wanted to make sure everything was perfect. This is where the nightmare began. Soon After her visit she began sneezing, reverse sneezing, a liitle discharge, etc. which was perplexing seeing as how she had just been given a check up. She slept A TON which worried me but I kept telling myself it was normal for a rescue. Two days later it had worsened and I bring her back. A different doctor is there and tells me the symptoms are nothing serious and she probably has grass stuck in her throat. To wait a few weeks, steam showers, and if nothing changes get a $1200 endoscopy. Now bear in mind I have never had a rescue, or a pitty, dont know her demeanor well enough to identify what was clearly lethargy, and never dealt with a reverse sneeze so I believed her. I TRUSTED her. Both of them. But soon her appetite had diminished, she drank less, she slept even MORE and I knew something was very wrong and began to look into it further. Long story short, this first bastard vet, paid zero attention to the papers I gave him denoting the vaccinations she had received at the shelter. He told me there optional non core vaccines that could prevent other things but they cost $. I said of course whatever she needs. Little did I know he was giving her another dose of the influenza vaccine she had already received TWICE already in the past month. This ridiculous oversight combined with her immune system being compromised from all the chaos of the past few weeks/months had opened her up to what was clearly a respiratory infection. But the SECOND doctor ignored the symptoms, sent me away and said take a Benadryl allowing it to grow stronger. It was only when I realized this piece of garbage had given her a detrimental dosage of influenza virus(which he charged me for), that I began taking the proper steps, which my instinct had told me to do all along. Subcutaneous Fluids, Anti-biotics, etc. A Vet I knew from the past saw her immediately and told me she was dangerously dehydrated. What is devastating me is that the failure of diagnosis and lack of treatment from multiple people not only caused but allowed this infection to become debilitating. Looking back now, they never took her temperature, her blood, her urine. Nothing. And for this poor girl to have been through so much and survive, just to have some P.O.S. carelessly cause her to endure even more suffering. Why? BC the first visit was comped. Its eating me alive and I would walk over there and murder him right now if I wasnt so worried to leave Lucy alone. What else can I do to help her?
