So Ive written my first listicle.... 13 little things you need to know for your wedding day that most brides forget! Although I have never had a wedding day of my own, Ive learned a lot of important little things that get forgotten until the very last minute of the wedding day. This listicle should help to eliminate that frantic last minute rush! Please feel free to share, and let me know what you think! 1. Get a package of those tiny little Wisps, the little toothbrushes for on the go that have a little toothpaste already in them! Youll be in close proximity of many different people all day, (including your groom for your big kiss!) and you wont have much time to run to the bathroom with a toothbrush and toothpaste throughout the day to eliminate dragon breath. And why risk messing up your makeup or dripping toothpaste drool on your dress?! 2. A bridal party emergency kit is a MUST HAVE! Someone should be assigned to prepare it before the wedding and make sure that its accessible throughout the day. Some important ideas for an emergency kit are: Wisps Safety Pins Bobby Pins Hairspray Deodorant (Spray deodorant is preferable, someone in the bridal party likely will forget theirs and its a little less personal than sharing the stick!) Nail File White Out pen (For a chipped French manicure, scuffed shoe, or depending on the color of the dress a stain cover up.) Nail glue (Not just for broken nails....it can be used to repair jewelry, hold together undone hems, replace missing buttons, and plenty of other things!) Shout! Wipes Baby wipes Tissues Tampons Q-Tips Comb Mini Sewing Kit Tums Pepto Bismuth tablets Advil Band aids Blister Blocker Stick (Such a life saver, especially because most shoes worn on the wedding day are brand new and not yet broken in - causing painful blisters!) Mini Vaseline Tub (An old Beauty Pageant trick is to put Vaseline on your teeth, it does help to keep lipstick from sticking to them. Vaseline is also great for any last minute dry skin patches, an emergency lip gloss or hair serum...the list just goes on!) Contact Solution Hand Lotion White Chalk (For last resort stains on the dress. It will cover them up for the day, and the cleaner can get it out before the dress is packed away. This way you havent done anything permanent.) Extra Underwear (I dont think we need to go into detail on this one, just an important thing to have in case of an emergency!) Scissors (Someone will inevitably have to cut tag, those obnoxious clear hanger straps, or any loose threads.) There are thousands of other things that could be added or needed too! 3. No matter how nervous you are before the ceremony, be sure to EAT beforehand. Once the ceremony over, everything is just a whirlwind and it can be nearly impossible for you and your new husband to sit down and eat your dinners. Dealing with all of that on an empty stomach can be miserable, as well as embarrassing. A whiney stomach can be awkward while chatting with Cousin Janet! Eating beforehand will prevent any hangry mishaps, which can easily happen during a hectic wedding celebration. 4. Spend a few extra bucks on nice hangers for all of the bridesmaids and/or flowers girls dresses. Most photographers shoot the bridesmaids dresses before everyone gets dressed, and Ive seen one too many ugly dry cleaner hangers ruin a beautiful photo. Those custom wooden hangers with everyones names in wire are wonderful, but not necessary. Just get one for everyone so they all coordinate. (If youre getting ready at a hotel, most hotels even have nice wooden hangers that you can use for the shot.) Whether theyre wooden, velvet, or black plastic, when they match they wont draw the eye away from the center of attention, the dresses. 5. Make sure you have some sort of secure way to collect cards from your guests. You can get a locking box or assign a family member to pay extra attention to the card box (both may be helpful), be sure that its not set off to the side and out of sight of the celebration. Its very sad, but I have heard of one too many couples having their cards lifted from their own weddings. Id like to think that its never a wedding guest, rather that its a shady employee of the venue that doesnt know or care about the special couple at all...just be sure you or better yet someone else is prepared to be aware. 6. Make sure that someone in the wedding party has umbrella or two handy no matter what the weather channel is predicting. You never know when the sky might randomly open up and pour down, but depending on the time of year, an umbrella can be extremely helpful on a sunny day too. Sun screen isnt something that most brides apply on their wedding day (some do!), and many pictures of wedding parties are taken outside. Ive worked at weddings where the bride was literally cooking while her party was attempting to bustle her dress before her entrance. It was a nightmare until a guest appeared with an umbrella to save the day! Which brings me to my next tip.... 7. Make sure a bridesmaid or two, or your mother, (ideally both!) go to all of your dress fittings with you and really learn, and remember, how to bustle your dress correctly. Many receptions have been held up (less party time, ugh!) while the party struggles to bustle the poor brides dress. (The same goes for your veil if you plan to remove it for the reception. Make sure someone goes with you to your hair trial so that your stylist can give your bridesmaid a lesson in how its attached so they can remove it without messing up your hairstyle.) 8. Have someone in the bridal party on straw duty. Using it will prevent you from messing up your lipstick, or accidentally dripping liquids on yourself! 9. Be absolutely sure that someone cuts off the stamen of the flowers in your bouquet before it reaches your hands. Pollen leaves a stubborn stain. An awful situation can easily be prevented if someone takes the initiative and snips off the ends. 10. Someone else should take your bouquet out of the water for you. Many fabrics, like satin, dont hold up well at all against water. One drip can cause very noticeable water marks. Play it safe and make sure someone else hands you a thoroughly dry bouquet. 11. Your wedding day will quite possibly be the busiest, most hectic day of your life. (Of course it should also be the BEST day of your life!) Be sure when scheduling your day with both your party and your vendors, that your plan for plenty of buffer time between each transition. For some reason, everything always runs over schedule on your wedding day, (no matter how well you plan!) so your safest bet is to plan for these run overs. Doing so will help to keep your sanity in tact and hopefully prevent any extra breakdowns. 12. A crochet hook will be your favorite time saver if you have a dress with lots of little buttons. A friend with nimble fingers and a crochet hook will suddenly become your best friend, because as the ceremony creeps in, every second counts! 13. Dont forget to enjoy your day. No one else will notice that one flower in your bouquet is a little different than the others, or that a few centerpieces arent perfectly aligned, or that your side swept hair had become a little limp. Youre the bride, you look gorgeous no matter what, and youre marrying your best friend! Dont let little planning details stress you out and take away from the special joy of the day. No one else will notice them, so be sure to appreciate all the little moments with your friends and family. Thats all the whole thing boils down to, LOVE.
