So Oregon and DC legalized yesterday. Yay! Im often asked why Im so vocal and passionate about marijuana legalization if Im not a pothead. I could go into it all day, the medicine that it is, the lack of danger, but at the end of it Ill just say this. Im also very passionate about rights for gay families to have the same legal benefits as straight families, Im not gay. Im also opposed to slavery, Ive never been a slave. At the end of the day I am vocal about equality and respect for people who just want the same respect as the majority are given. If the way you live your life and who you are isnt hurting anybody, its a god damn crime to tell you that you cant medicate yourself as you see fit, marry whomever makes you happy, and walk this land free regardless of the color of your skin. You can say marijuana isnt in the same category as the other two, but I disagree. The point is the same. Stop oppressing people because their lifestyle is different than yours. Its really quite simple. Im not an advocate for these things because Im black, gay, or a recreational marijuana user, Im an advocate for these things because Im human. Because while these issues dont directly affect me, they affect my people. And thats my problem too.
