So far, Lebanese presidential candidates are (most probably) Samir Geagea, Michel Aoun, Amin Gemeyel--all of whom are war criminals who were imprisoned or exiled for their roles in the Lebanese civil war. Personally, I have stories about my perceptions and fears of them as a child in Beirut. I am sure that so many other residents of Lebanon during the war also have such stories. One of the proudest moment of my life was going to a zionist organized propaganda event with Aoun in DC (this is when he was in exile, calling for sanctions against Hizballah and Syria and being called mr president by many of the event attendees). I waited in line afterwords as people were waiting in line to shake his hand. When it got to my turn, I stared at him and refused to shake his hand--then someone removed me. He may have been like wtf is up with this chick? but it meant something to me, and to the ten year old me whose apartment building and area was shelled by the Lebanese army during Aouns war of liberation
