So, here goes! For years now my life has been completely dominated by a bastard thing called claustrophobia. Its stopped me flying, going on trains, taking lifts, getting in the back seat of a car. Its stopped me taking my kids to the movies in case I couldnt sit on the end of a row so I could get out easily. I even feel trapped if I go into a department store and cant see the exit signs ffs. Its ruined the last decade of my life and been the ever present thought in my head, always there. Well no more, after 6 months of intensive work, gradually taking smaller and smaller steps I find myself in London, in a hotel not far from heathrow. The reason is that tomorrow I board a plane for the first time in years. A small, insignificant thing to most, but the end of a journey of the biggest magnitude to me. The biggest day of my life. Something I couldnt have dared to dream this time last year. I know I havent done it quite yet, and that the next 24 hrs will be exhausting, frightening, but thrilling. Thank you to everyone for your support through this, you know who you are and you know I couldnt have done it without you. I guess the reason I wanted to post this is that it may inspire someone else to face a fear, and believe that it can be done. Phobias are irrational, pathetic, cruel, but very real. However, no matter how big the phobia is, it can be beaten. It can, and Im about to prove it!
