So if you walk into the shelter and meet Cheif, he wont appear - TopicsExpress

So if you walk into the shelter and meet Cheif, he wont appear nice. In fact hell look like he wants to tear an arm off, but the thing is hes a cattle dog and if you know cattle dogs you know theyre highly intelligent and they do NOT fare well in shelter settings. This dog is also an older gent so we have no idea how much socialization hes had. Ill admit I had to put him on a catch pole at first to get him OUT of the kennels but the moment I got him outside he was a different dog. He did not do anything remotely comparable to what he was doing inside his kennel. THIS IS NORMAL in my experiences with this breed. My friend had one that I think I touched a total of 3 times and I practically lived at their house for several years (well I was there every day, we went out to the desert and fishing together constantly, this dog knew me well) in any case this is just the way some of them can be and I dont blame him a bit. I obviously put a leash on him and we cleaned that wound on his leg without too much trouble, hes just terrified. I am truly hoping the cow dog people will help this handsome old guy out. I love his expression, I love his character, he doesnt trust easily and who can blame him? I dont either. So theres GOT to be a good person who gets this type of dog out there looking for a buddy. Plus hes awesome and mellow, not crazy high energy. So...Anyone want to give him the chance he needs?
