So it seems like there are people in this group with legitimate expertise in particular areas of science and technology and also broad interest in deep questions. Why dont we talk about something more interesting than arguing over basics? Also, if we talk about legitimately controversial issues in science rather than explaining simple things it becomes a practical demonstration that science is in fact an ongoing discussion between peers rather than some club filled up with believers who just repeat dogma. Heres a controversial (but not cranky) opinion Ive come around to, its a hidden variables version of QM that derives the schrodinger equation from the assumption of physically real particles doing a random walk in a fluid. Its called stochastic mechanics, and it is very much not the mainstream view in physics. Anyway thats just one example. If other people have expertise in different areas, feel free to volunteer any of the wild ideas you might entertain which are nevertheless potentially true and not based on childish simplifications but on a legitimate engagement with an unanswered question. iopscience.iop.org/1742-6596/361/1/012011?rel=sem&relno=1
