So, just saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier and it was really fun and well-done in many ways. One issue that is central to the film is the security/freedom dichotomy... and Ive come to the conclusion that I am done... DONE with defining America by 9/11... even a little bit. Thats as sick as someone defining themselves by their worst day, 12 years later... The day everything they loved was attacked. Instead of the ACTUAL THINGS THEY LOVE. People who live every day of their lives in grief and fear are totally worthy of sympathy and sensitivity, but we still acknowledge they are still sick. Im done being sick. DONE. Im done with being in the control of arms-pushers, fear-mongers, cash-hoarders and the worst iteration of a formerly legitimate intelligence-gathering profession. There IS a problem with this and it IS a sickness that America can, and should, decide to recover from... Not just wallow in the trauma. Living in fear is not living. America deserves to live.
