So many people have called me to enquire about Mubi. I was able to - TopicsExpress

So many people have called me to enquire about Mubi. I was able to confirm from both Military sources and residents who went and returned that the Nigerian Army is now in charge of the town. Three battalions are now stationed there with some degree of assurance that this time if the insurgents dare show up there will be no tactical maneuver I also spoke with sources within Adamawa State Government and was told that Governor Bala James Nggilari has taken responsibility for Police and Sanitation officials who will bury the littered corpses and fumigate some areas desiring fumigation. All these are commendable steps, but certain challenges still remain to be considered by residents when returning: 1. There is a likely hood of left over IEDs (local bombs) either forgotten or left as booby traps. We pray there are enough personnel and equipment to comb the town of such deadly leftovers before our people return. 2. There will be shotages of all essentials especially food. Our houses have been looted, our shops ransacked and our harvests destroyed. Even our domestic animals have either strayed or been consumed. 3. All the Banks in Mubi have been destroyed so there will no source of cash in the town. All banking platforms are absent. That will pose a very big problem for returnees. The nearest functional banks will be in Yola a distance of nearly 200 kilometers. 4. Schools and Health centers are equally vandalized. This is another big challenge. Life will be meaningless if there are no vital social services that cater for our health needs and guarantee the future of our kids. 5. How do we handle our sons who were recruited by the blood thirsty insurgents, initiated into their deadly cult and eventually unleashed onto our communities. Will parents, relatives and friends expose such persons. Our collective survival depends on doing just that. 6. What lessons are we going to consider more important? Is it the lesson of enmity and mutual suspicion, or the lessons of helps rendered in brotherhood and absolute fraternity regardless of differences? We must accept the fact that while facing danger we all braced it as one people. While in Yola and other locations as IDPs we all assisted each other and received assistance from all sources regardless of our preferences. These are the most important lessons to imbibe. Let us come out of this crisis STRONGER TOGETHER Lastly, i think it will not be out of place to ask the Federal Government that if indeed there is A VICTIMS SUPPORT FUND now is the time to deploy it for the purposes of rehabilitating Mubi.
