So my friends , first off a big apology for bringing my grumpy self to Run Dem yesterday. I always tell people to leave the dark clouds outside the door so yesterday has taught me to follow my own advice. Weirdly enough in the short run from 1948 to the Like The Wind pop up my mood instantly lifted and I was looking forward to burning up some miles with the crew along the Embankment. What I didnt expect was the gathering of old , new and future faces from seasons past, an evening of stories and affection and the presentation of a book filled with outpourings of love from you all. Without question the best birthday present ever and a concrete reminder in times of need that there are some real powerful pockets of goodness in this world. Each page brings a smile and many have brought tears and I will spend the rest of the day slowly absorbing your beautiful words. Big thanks to Paul Bains and the team who pulled this all together, I have absolutely no idea how you managed to gather such a large amount of information from people without me knowing. That Mos Def footage has never been publicly seen before and although I remember it being filmed at the time Ive never actually seen it. Danny Wood I hear you move in mysterious ways. Its the small gestures like that which really resonate with me and I thank you all for your time and energy in making sure that my birthday celebrations started the right way. You are indeed the extended family I never had and for once Im not staring at the letterbox for that elusive card that I know will never come. Thanks to the cake makers and everyone who clapped, spoke and shared in the festivities. Hugo you are a legend. Over and Out Daddy Dark xx
