So theres no advertising on the BBC? I have never thought a licence fee for the BBC is most efficient way to fund the Beeb. How much is spent on advertising about licence evasion and how much is spent trying to enforce it? There should be a debate about this advertising on the website. Why not just paying for it with general taxation. Other broadcasters such as Sky charge for their subscriptions. Perhaps the Beeb could also be by subscription now that revenue is more controllable through digital boxes. Some could opt out of watching the Beeb or ITV etc ... or they could be part of different packages such as Entertainment and Sport. Australia got rid of TV licences a long time ago... although I remember fondly the ads with the deep voiced actor Frank Thring asking in a voice reminiscent of Vincent Price: I wonder if you could have a look right now to see if youve got a current radio and TV licence?! youtube/watch?v=_5B_6qPW0k8 And heres a web article about Finland dropping the licence for a means-tested tax so it is based on your ability to pay. thenextweb/media/2012/11/28/as-finland-prepares-to-drop-its-tv-licence-fee-for-a-means-tested-tax/ I await the throngs arguing to protect the precious Beeb from advertising, which I thoroughly want to see funded well to keep up the good work.
