So when I first started college I was on track to get into local TV News as that was what my media department was mainly geared towards at the time. But the more I learned and particularly the more I interacted with that world the more horribly, ridiculously depressed I became about the prospect. The end result was I dropped out of school and had a couple of good, but pretty tough years. By the time life got me back around to building my career again, my school had started a film program and I was off to the races. Im now a short documentary film maker and I really truly love it. However I still wind up shooting a lot of events and interact with local news pretty regularly. Well let me just say I feel completely validated in my life choice to make film and not news. To all my friends who make news I do not mean to slam your profession or you. I know a lot of good hard working people who do that kind of work. But the more I experience these roaming news teams elbow, cajole, ignore and down right abuse the people around them to get their shot, the more thankful I am that I work for a company that believes telling stories is not an at all costs profession and that respect and conscientiousness are import values both at home and in the field. Also, go see Guardians of the Galaxy.
